Tension has heightened at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic following fresh demands by a group of stakeholders for a thorough investigation into the age and retirement status of the institution’s Rector, Dr. Simon Adegun.
The call comes amid controversy over alleged inconsistencies surrounding the Rector’s denial of reports linking him to a planned 65th birthday and retirement send-off slated for April 21, 2026.
In a statement made available to the public, the stakeholders said the issue required urgent clarification, stressing that it transcends speculation and must be addressed through verifiable records.
They urged the Rector to present his Primary School Leaving Certificate, describing it as a critical document that forms the basis of official records. According to them, such a certificate predates subsequent administrative documents and should provide clarity on the matter.
The group also called on the Ondo State Government to direct the institution’s Acting Registrar, Mr. Oloye O.M., to produce the Rector’s personal file for scrutiny, noting that official records at the point of first appointment typically contain declared age details that remain unchanged throughout a public service career.
Raising concerns over leadership integrity, the stakeholders warned that unresolved discrepancies could undermine confidence within the academic community. They argued that credibility and trust are essential components of effective leadership, particularly in educational institutions.
The statement further stressed the need for transparency, maintaining that the concerns earlier raised by labour unions within the polytechnic were rooted in institutional records rather than personal grievances.
According to the group, only an open verification process would resolve the controversy and restore confidence. They added that aligning official records with foundational documents would either lay the matter to rest or necessitate the enforcement of existing retirement regulations.
The stakeholders, therefore, urged the government to act decisively, noting that a prompt and transparent review would help prevent further escalation of the crisis.
