Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, have re-elected Comrade Nelson Obukowho Agbajor as chairman, with all other executive members also returned unchallenged.
The election, held on April 25, 2026, at the chapel’s secretariat in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, was supervised by officials of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, led by the State Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, alongside the Acting Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior.
The consensus outcome, which saw the seven-member executive returned without opposition, was widely interpreted by observers as a reaffirmation of members’ confidence in the leadership of the chapel.
Those re-elected alongside Agbajor include Stephanie Ikanone Odiete as Vice Chairman, Rita Daniel as Secretary, Esada Uyono as Treasurer, Dorothy Egwe as Assistant Secretary, Clarkson Ogo as Financial Secretary, and Comrade Peace Caleb as Auditor.
Speaking after the exercise, Agbajor expressed appreciation to members for the renewed mandate, describing the development as a call to higher responsibility.
He pledged to strengthen unity within the chapel and ensure more inclusive leadership, adding that his team would build on previous efforts to improve members’ welfare and participation in union activities.
“This renewed confidence will spur us to do more. We are committed to fostering a united chapel where every member is carried along,” he said.
Administering the oath of office, Oyowe commended the peaceful conduct of the election and urged the executives to uphold professionalism while promoting inclusiveness in their operations.
He also called on members to take part in the ongoing revalidation exercise across the state, noting that it was crucial to the growth and stability of the union.
Agbajor, who has previously served the chapel in various capacities including Assistant Secretary and Secretary, has also been involved in several assignments at the state level.
He holds academic qualifications in Mass Communication and Public Administration from Auchi Polytechnic and the University of Benin.
With the fresh mandate, expectations are high that the leadership will consolidate on its achievements and deepen cohesion among members of the chapel.
