Seyi Makinde: Olubadan distances self from impeachment plot rumours

Olubadan

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has cautioned political actors in Oyo State against involving him in partisan matters, insisting that he is not a politician.

The monarch’s reaction followed speculations alleging that he and certain political stakeholders were plotting the impeachment of the state governor.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, the claims were dismissed as unfounded and misleading.

Oloko stressed that the traditional ruler neither has the constitutional authority nor the inclination to participate in any political scheme, including impeachment processes.

He explained that under Nigeria’s legal framework, a monarch lacks the power to remove even a local government chairman, let alone a sitting governor.

The statement urged members of the public to disregard the rumours and refrain from dragging the revered monarch into what it described as “dirty politics.”

“You don’t need to be a former governor or a distinguished senator to understand that a traditional ruler has no power to impeach a local government chairman, much less a state governor,” the statement read.
