Suspected gunmen have killed and beheaded a 30-year-old man, Elisha Abbas Saku, during a late-night attack in Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Residents said the incident occurred around 10pm on Thursday at Riwhie-Chwo in Nzharuvo community when the attackers invaded the area, triggering panic as people fled for safety.
The killing was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the Irigwe Youth Movement.
In the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Yonkpa, the group condemned the attack and described it as gruesome.
The group said the victim was attacked and killed during the raid, lamenting the persistent violence in the area.
“We received reports that a young man was attacked and killed in a shocking manner during the invasion of the community,” the statement noted.
Yonkpa, while expressing sympathy with the family of the deceased, called for calm among residents and urged authorities to take decisive steps to halt the recurring attacks.
He added that the community was in mourning following the incident and appealed for support and protection for affected residents.
