The United Nations Children’s Fund has deepened its collaboration with the Ondo State Government to scale up prevention efforts and public awareness campaigns against Lassa fever.
This formed the highlight of a courtesy visit by UNICEF officials— and —to the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, , in Akure.
Speaking during the visit, Akinola-Akinwole lauded the commissioner for receiving the delegation, noting that the persistent prevalence of Lassa fever in Nigeria remains a major public health concern. She said UNICEF’s ongoing interventions are focused on raising awareness about the disease’s causes, prevention, and control measures.
She further stressed that environmental factors aiding the spread of the disease require urgent government attention, calling for stronger institutional support through the ministry to expand outreach to communities across the state.
Responding, Ajanaku commended UNICEF for its sustained partnership, describing the organisation as a dependable ally in health communication and development initiatives. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting campaigns geared towards disease prevention and improved public health outcomes.
The commissioner also pledged enhanced collaboration to boost sensitisation efforts, emphasising that safeguarding public health remains a priority of the administration. He added that the government has maintained a proactive response to reported cases of Lassa fever.
Ajanaku further applauded the Commissioner for Health, , for ensuring strict adherence to standard protocols across health facilities in the state.
Both parties reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen cooperation in health communication and community engagement, with a shared goal of curbing the spread of Lassa fever and promoting healthier communities in Ondo State.
