VIDEO: Viral clip of rider eating from customer’s order sparks outrage

The dispatch rider

Public anger has trailed a viral video showing a dispatch rider tampering with a customer’s food order before delivery.

The clip, shared widely on X on Saturday, captured the rider seated by the roadside with packs of small chops laid out beside him.

In the footage, the individual, later identified as David Agburu, was seen opening portions of the packaged food, picking items to eat, and subsequently closing the packs before continuing his delivery.

The incident drew a swift response from the affected vendor, Larry Spice Ventures, which dissociated itself from the rider, explaining that he was engaged as a third-party courier via InDrive.

The company, in a statement, condemned the act and described it as a breach of acceptable standards, adding that the matter had been escalated to the delivery platform for necessary action.

It also disclosed that the rider had been apprehended and handed over to authorities, while investigations were ongoing.

The development has reignited concerns over hygiene and accountability within the delivery sector, with many Nigerians expressing fears over food safety.

Several social media users called on vendors to adopt stricter packaging methods, including sealed or tamper-evident containers, to protect customers.

Observers say the incident highlights growing trust issues in the country’s fast-expanding logistics and food delivery space, amid reports of item theft, altered orders and poor handling practices.
