An aspirant for the Lere West State Constituency seat under the All Progressives Congress, Tom Garba, has called for strict adherence to internal democracy in the party’s candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 elections.
Garba made the call shortly after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms at the party’s secretariat in Kaduna.
The journalist-turned-politician said he was prepared to participate in either direct primaries or a consensus arrangement, provided the process is transparent and acceptable to all stakeholders.
“I have submitted my forms and I am ready for the journey ahead, fully committed to representing the mandate of our people,” he said.
He stressed that while consensus remains an option, it must be driven by fairness, inclusiveness and collective agreement among aspirants and party leaders.
“If consensus is considered the best route to present a strong and electable candidate, it should be based on justice, equity and mutual understanding among all concerned,” he added.
Garba also cautioned fellow aspirants against dragging the name of Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, into political permutations, noting that the governor should not be portrayed as favouring any individual.
According to him, the governor, as leader of the party in the state, is committed to ensuring a credible and transparent process.
The aspirant reaffirmed his readiness for the party’s scheduled primaries, while expressing confidence in the leadership of the APC to deliver a process that would strengthen unity and enhance the party’s chances in the general elections.
