2027 Reps Race: Ex-REA Boss, Ahmad declares for Yola Seat, dismisses origin rumours

A former Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 House of Representatives election for Yola South, Yola North and Girei Federal Constituency in Adamawa State.

Ahmad, a technocrat in Nigeria’s power sector, announced his ambition in a statement, pledging to bring his experience in public service to bear in legislative representation.

He said his decision was driven by a commitment to contribute to the development of the constituency, promising a results-oriented approach if elected.

During his tenure at the REA, Ahmad oversaw initiatives aimed at expanding electricity access to rural and underserved communities, particularly through renewable energy programmes.

The former agency boss also used the occasion to dismiss speculations about his origin, clarifying that he is from Yola South Local Government Area.

He explained that while his mother hails from Mayo Belwa, his paternal lineage is rooted in Yola South, in line with established cultural norms.

“I am from the Wali family of Yola, with a well-documented heritage in Yola South. There is no paternal connection to Mayo Belwa,” he stated.

Ahmad further stressed that his political vision transcends local government boundaries, noting that his service would be inclusive of all communities within the constituency.

Political observers say his declaration has generated interest among stakeholders, with supporters describing him as a development-focused leader capable of strengthening representation at the National Assembly.

They added that his entry into the race could reshape the political landscape in the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
