A 28-year-old man, Amos Sokindji, has been arraigned before an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing and fraudulently converting over N1.7m belonging to two individuals.
The defendant was brought before the court on a two-count charge bordering on stealing and fraudulent conversion of entrusted funds.
The prosecutor, Inspector Suleman Abdullateef, told the court that the alleged offences were committed in February 2026 at ABC Bread Bakery Flour Store located on Obaloja Street, Oda Town, via Akure, as well as at Flakem Bread in Oba-Ile, Akure.
According to the prosecution, Sokindji allegedly stole N1.57m belonging to one Bello Lukeman and another N186,000 said to belong to Mrs Akinyemi Olufunke.
Abdullateef further alleged that the defendant converted the money to personal use without authorisation.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 383 and 390(6) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel for the defendant, G.O. Bernard, urged the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that he would not abscond during trial.
In his ruling, Magistrate O. Omotosho granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was subsequently adjourned till May 26, 2026, for further hearing.
