AAUA: Nigeria needs transparent leadership to grow economy — Prof. Ihinmoyan

A Professor of Business Administration at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Timothy Ihinmoyan, has urged the Federal Government to implement policies that will strengthen entrepreneurship, create jobs and improve the standard of living of Nigerians.

The professor made the call on Tuesday while delivering the 63rd inaugural lecture of the institution titled, “Marketing and Consumers’ Destiny: Spacing, Shaping and Strategies in the 21st Century,” at the university’s Multipurpose Hall.

Ihinmoyan said Nigeria’s economic growth and business sustainability depended largely on transparent leadership, good governance and policies capable of encouraging innovation and enterprise development.

According to him, citizens would only have confidence in government when leaders demonstrate discipline, accountability and commitment to the welfare of the people.

The don described marketing as a customer-oriented discipline designed to satisfy consumers through quality goods and efficient service delivery.

He explained that organisations seeking long-term success must prioritise customer satisfaction by consistently meeting expectations and improving service quality.

“Quality customer service remains essential for customer retention, product awareness and repeat patronage,” he stated.

Ihinmoyan further noted that modern consumer behaviour had evolved significantly due to digital technology, stressing that buyers now rely heavily on online platforms, research and strategic spending before making purchasing decisions.

Speaking on challenges confronting consumers in the digital age, he listed information overload, privacy concerns, emotional pressure, subscription-based spending and excessive dependence on technology among major issues affecting decision-making.

He, however, recommended stronger regulations, transparent business practices, improved supply chains, secure digital systems and the use of Artificial Intelligence to provide more personalised services.

The professor also advised organisations to strengthen their customer relations departments to effectively address complaints and improve interactions with consumers.

He added that regular training of workers on customer service and periodic evaluation of service delivery systems would help businesses remain competitive in a rapidly changing environment.

Ihinmoyan further called on government at all levels to provide adequate infrastructure and security to support small and medium-scale enterprises across the country.

He stressed the need to encourage greater youth participation in entrepreneurship, noting that environmental and economic conditions significantly influence business performance and customer patronage.

The don also urged policymakers to develop sustainable strategies capable of promoting innovation and nurturing entrepreneurial culture among Nigerians.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, described inaugural lectures as platforms for intellectual engagement and scholarly reflection.

He commended Ihinmoyan for his contributions to academic development and his commitment to the growth of the institution.
