A couple, Mr and Mrs Kehinde Sanusi, have narrated their harrowing experience after they were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Ondo State before being rescued by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, during an overnight operation.
The victims were reportedly attacked shortly after arriving at their residence in Ilu-Abo community on Thursday evening.
Recounting the incident, Mr Kehinde said the armed men had laid ambush around their home before launching the attack around 6:30 p.m.
He explained that the assailants dragged them into the bush after assaulting them.
“We had just arrived home at Ilu-Abo when the kidnappers emerged from hiding. As I attempted to step out of the vehicle, they attacked and abducted us,” he said.
Kehinde described the experience as traumatic, adding that he sustained machete cuts and other injuries during the assault.
He, however, commended operatives of Ondo State Security Network Agency for their prompt intervention, revealing that his wife regained freedom barely minutes after the incident was reported.
“The response by Amotekun was impressive. Within a few minutes, they rescued my wife. Even the corps commander personally joined the operation in the bush,” he said.
The victim further disclosed that he received free medical treatment at the Amotekun clinic after his rescue.
“They treated my injuries without charging me and also provided refreshments. I am grateful to the corps commander, the operatives and the Ondo State Government for their support,” he added.
Kehinde also appreciated traditional rulers in Ilu-Abo and Alayere communities, local hunters and residents for their efforts during the rescue operation.
Speaking separately, Mrs Kehinde said four armed men ambushed them shortly after they arrived from Oba-Ile community.
According to her, the kidnappers surrounded their vehicle and threatened them with a double-barrel gun before dispossessing them of their valuables.
“They collected my money and beat me with sticks while forcing us into the forest,” she recalled.
She explained that while they were being marched through the bush, they sighted local hunters and Amotekun operatives near a road, prompting her to raise the alarm.
“That was how they rescued me and took me to the palace before I was later treated at a health centre. I kept crying because I had not seen my husband, but the commander assured me he would also be rescued,” she said.
Mrs Kehinde said she spent the night in prayers until she received news the following morning that her husband had been rescued safely.
She thanked Amotekun operatives, local hunters, traditional rulers and the Ondo State Government for securing their freedom.
