A House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress for the Akoko North Federal Constituency, Hon. Moruf Tosin, popularly known as Hon. Murphy, has expressed displeasure over his disqualification from the party’s primary election, questioning the timing of the decision released by the APC National leadership.
Murphy, in a statement issued on Friday, described his disqualification as shocking and raised concerns over what he called a lack of transparency and fairness in the screening process.
The aspirant stated that he duly participated in the APC screening exercise conducted over a week ago and fulfilled all necessary requirements ahead of the primary election.
According to him, the release of the screening outcome on the very day of the primary election denied affected aspirants the opportunity to seek clarification or redress.
“It is with deep concern and disappointment that we address the sudden disqualification of Hon. Moruf Tosin (Hon. Murphy) from the APC primary election for the Akoko North Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat,” the statement read.
The statement further questioned why the APC National body delayed the release of the screening result until the day of the exercise, describing the action as suspicious and irregular.
“Why would the APC National release the screening result on the day of the primary election? This timing is not only suspicious but also highly irregular. It denies aspirants the opportunity to respond to any alleged issues, seek redress, or prepare alternative political steps,” the statement added.
Murphy also condemned what he described as last-minute disqualifications, saying such actions undermine justice, equity and fair play within the ruling party.
He warned that the development could weaken confidence in the party’s internal democratic process and fuel speculations that the exercise was manipulated in favour of certain candidates.
The aspirant called on the APC National leadership to explain the rationale behind the delayed release of the screening outcome and ensure due process in future primaries.
He maintained that the people of Akoko North deserved a transparent and credible process that reflected their will.
Murphy, however, assured his supporters of his continued commitment to the development of the constituency, saying efforts would continue in pursuit of justice and the interest of the people.
