A House of Representatives aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress for the Akoko South East/Akoko South West Federal Constituency, Hon. Seun Oluwashina Ajongbolo, has expressed concern over what he described as inconsistencies in the ongoing primary election process of the party.
Ajongbolo, who reacted to the uncertainty surrounding the timetable for the APC House of Representatives primaries, lamented the repeated changes in the election schedule, saying the exercise was initially fixed for May 15 before it was later postponed to May 16.
The aspirant noted that the latest adjustment marked the second change within a short period, a development he said had created confusion among aspirants and their supporters.
He added that the shifting dates had disrupted campaign activities, consultations, and other political engagements already arranged ahead of the primaries.
Ajongbolo also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in releasing the list of successful aspirants from the party’s screening exercise, warning that the situation was increasing tension and anxiety among party members and contestants.
According to him, transparency, consistency, and proper communication are necessary to sustain the confidence of party faithful in the electoral process.
“As aspirants who have committed ourselves to the democratic process of our great party, we believe clarity, transparency and consistency are essential to maintaining confidence in the process,” he said.
The aspirant appealed to the national leadership of the APC, the Ondo State Governor, and party executives in the state to clearly communicate the direction of the party concerning the forthcoming primaries.
He stressed the need for fairness and equal opportunity for all contestants, urging party leaders to provide a level playing ground capable of strengthening internal democracy within the party.
“Our party remains a strong institution built on progressive ideals. It is important that every aspirant is given equal opportunity within a transparent and credible process that reflects the democratic values of the APC,” Ajongbolo added.
Despite his concerns, the aspirant reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and expressed confidence that the party leadership would address the issues in the interest of fairness, unity, and stability.
Political stakeholders within the constituency, however, believe the concerns raised by Ajongbolo reflect growing calls among party members for greater clarity and better coordination as the APC prepares for its primary elections.
