In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, six frontline aspirants seeking the ticket of the All Progressives Congress for Akoko South West Constituency 1 in the Ondo State House of Assembly have stepped down from the race and endorsed Olugbenga Omole as consensus candidate.
The decision was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party leaders, community elders, ward chairmen, councillors and supporters across the constituency.
The aspirants who withdrew from the contest are Gbenga Osewa from Ward 1, Murphy Adamolekun from Ward 7, Niyi Leramo from Ward 6, Gbenga Enyadunmo from Ward 7, Adeniyi Osewa from Ward 1, and Donald Ologbese from Ward 8.
The aspirants also collapsed their political structures in support of Omole, saying the move was aimed at promoting unity within the party and strengthening the APC ahead of the elections.
In a joint statement, the former aspirants described their withdrawal as a sacrifice made in the interest of the constituency and the party, insisting that collective progress should take precedence over personal ambition.
“Akoko South West Constituency I is bigger than any individual ambition. We have chosen to put the people first. Today, we declare our full loyalty to the ISE OLUWA LEKAN SI Movement and formally endorse Hon. Akogun Olugbenga Omole as our consensus flag bearer for the Ondo State House of Assembly in 2027,” the statement read.
They added that Omole had paid his dues in the party and contributed significantly to the development of party members across the constituency.
According to them, the endorsement followed consultations within the party and was in line with the directive of Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, aimed at ensuring party cohesion and electoral success.
The aspirants expressed confidence in Omole’s capacity to represent the constituency effectively and pledged to work collectively for the victory of the party in the forthcoming elections.
Party leaders at the gathering described the move as a masterstroke capable of reducing internal crisis and strengthening the APC’s grassroots support base in the constituency.
They commended the aspirants for what they termed political maturity and selflessness, noting that the decision would help consolidate the party’s chances ahead of the primary election.
Responding, Omole appreciated the aspirants for the endorsement and described their action as a demonstration of loyalty, sacrifice and commitment to the progress of the party.
He promised to provide inclusive leadership and assured stakeholders that no one who contributed to the movement would be sidelined.
Omole also pledged to offer effective representation if elected into the state assembly, adding that the interests of the constituency would remain paramount.
Speaking at the event, the APC chairman in Akoko South West Local Government, Sunday Agbede Ajulu, praised the aspirants for embracing unity and placing the interest of the party above personal ambition.
He said the development would further strengthen the APC in the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.
Other party stakeholders at the meeting also described Omole as a straightforward politician known for speaking the truth regardless of whose interest was affected.
