Civic Hive has called on academics, researchers and policy experts to submit scholarly papers examining the evolving role of civic technology, artificial intelligence and digital rights in Africa’s democratic space.
The organisation made the call in a statement announcing a special 2026 edition of the Nigerian Journal of Business and Social Sciences, published by the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lagos.
According to Civic Hive, the special publication will focus on the theme, “Civic Tech, AI and Democracy,” with contributions expected to explore emerging opportunities, challenges and the future of technology-driven civic engagement across the continent.
Interested contributors are expected to submit their manuscripts through jbss@unilag.edu.ng and research@civichive.org on or before May 31, 2026.
The organisation stated that submitted papers must be evidence-based and written in English language.
It added that manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word format using Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing and a maximum length of 20 pages, including references.
According to the submission guidelines, abstracts must contain between 250 and 300 words, summarising key arguments and findings, while references should follow the APA 7th edition citation style.
“The body of the paper should be structured using clear headings and subheadings,” the statement noted.
The organisers listed the sub-themes for the publication to include civic technology and democratic participation, technology and democratic backsliding, artificial intelligence and misinformation, digital rights and civic space, innovation and sustainability, as well as strategies for countering autocratic narratives.
