Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged victorious in the African Democratic Congress presidential primary election conducted in Ondo State, defeating former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and another aspirant, Muhammad Hayatudeen.
The result of the exercise, which was held across the 203 political wards in the state, was announced by the Electoral Officer, Mr. Samuel Ajibola.
According to Ajibola, Atiku secured 18,287 votes to defeat Amaechi, who polled 6,031 votes, while Hayatudeen garnered 837 votes.
Declaring the result, the electoral officer said Atiku recorded the highest number of votes cast by eligible party members in the state to clinch victory in the primary.
Reacting to the outcome of the exercise, the Ondo State Chairman of the ADC, Bahorun Tola Alabere, expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Alabere stated that the emergence of candidates for various elective positions at both the state and national levels had strengthened the party’s resolve to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to him, the ADC has built enough structure across the state to compete effectively in the forthcoming polls.
“We are fully prepared, and Nigerians can already see the momentum. The people must now decide whether they want to continue with hardship, insecurity and economic difficulties or embrace a new direction,” he said.
The party chairman also accused the APC of attempting to weaken the ADC through alleged litigation and internal crises, saying the efforts failed to stop the party from producing candidates for the elections.
He maintained that the ADC was gaining more supporters daily due to growing dissatisfaction within the ruling party.
Alabere further cited the defection of some political figures into the party as a sign of increasing confidence in the ADC’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections.
He added that the party remained optimistic about securing victories in Ondo State and other parts of the country.
