Atlast, PDP faction picks Jonathan as 2027 Presidential candidate

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by formerpresidential aspirant, Taminu Turaki, has announced former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The decision was reached during a special national convention organised by the faction at its secretariat in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

Jonathan was not present at the convention where delegates formally endorsed his candidacy.

However, a Certificate of Return issued to him was received by a member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State, Fred Agbedi.

The endorsement was unveiled before party delegates and stakeholders loyal to the Turaki-led bloc of the opposition party.

The development comes amid an ongoing leadership tussle within the PDP, with another faction reportedly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, having earlier produced Sandy Onor as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 poll.

The Wike-backed camp had also dismissed reports suggesting that Jonathan had emerged as the party’s consensus presidential flag bearer.

As of the time of filing this report, the former president had yet to publicly react to the endorsement by the Turaki-led faction.
