The Federal Government has announced that candidates seeking admission into Federal Colleges of Education for the Nigeria Certificate in Education programme will no longer be required to sit the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Monday during the 2026 Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board held in Abuja.
Alausa said the exemption would also apply to candidates seeking admission into programmes related to technology, agriculture and other specialised fields.
According to the minister, the move is part of efforts aimed at expanding access to tertiary education and encouraging enrolment into technical and teacher education programmes.
He, however, clarified that prospective candidates must still possess the required O’Level qualifications for their chosen courses.
The minister added that affected applicants would continue to undergo screening through JAMB for proper documentation and admission processing.
The announcement formed part of deliberations at the annual policy meeting where stakeholders in the education sector reviewed admission procedures and other issues affecting tertiary institutions across the country.
