BREAKING: Tambuwal withdraws from Senate race, ADC backs ex-Reps Speaker

Aminu Tambuwal

Former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the race for the Sokoto South Senatorial District seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his withdrawal, the African Democratic Congress endorsed former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Faruk Yabo, as its consensus candidate for the senatorial contest.

Tambuwal, who represented Sokoto South in the Senate after completing his tenure as governor, was also a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2023 general elections before stepping down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a related development, former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has emerged as the ADC’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.

Dan’iya served as deputy governor during Tambuwal’s administration in Sokoto State.

The latest political developments are expected to reshape the opposition’s calculations in Sokoto ahead of the 2027 elections, as consultations and alignments continue across major political parties.
