There was confusion in Abuja on Saturday after delegates attending the national convention of the Zenith Labour Party were unable to gain access to their venue due to an ongoing wedding reception.
The incident occurred at Chelsea Hotel, located in the Central Business District of the Federal Capital Territory, where the party had scheduled its convention.
Delegates who arrived at the venue were reportedly surprised to find the hall occupied by wedding guests, leading to a temporary disruption of the party's activities.
An eyewitness, Mohammed Abbas, said the delegates were left stranded outside the premises as efforts were made to resolve the situation.
According to him, the convention could not commence as scheduled because the wedding event was still in progress when party members arrived.
“The delegates got to the venue expecting preparations for the convention, but they met a wedding reception already underway. As a result, many of them had to wait outside while discussions were ongoing,” Abbas explained.
The development created uncertainty among attendees, with party officials and delegates seeking clarification on the unexpected overlap of events.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the leadership of the Zenith Labour Party nor the management of Chelsea Hotel had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The party's national chairman, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, had yet to comment on the disruption.
It was not immediately clear how the scheduling mix-up occurred or when the convention would eventually commence.
