The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following his recent conviction by the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged financial misappropriation.
The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, disclosing that the former minister was apprehended in the early hours of the day at about 3:30 a.m. in Kaduna State.
Mamman, who was recently sentenced by the court for offences relating to money laundering and fraud involving about N33.8 billion linked to power projects, was reportedly arrested alongside two persons suspected of harbouring him.
Olukoyede stated that the location where the former minister was picked up is currently under investigation as part of ongoing inquiries by the anti-graft agency.
He described the arrest as part of the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring that anyone who diverts public funds is brought to justice.
According to him, the commission had already filed charges against the ex-minister earlier in the year before securing his conviction after months of prosecution.
The EFCC boss added that investigations would continue into possible accomplices and properties linked to the convicted former minister.
