The lawmaker representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Thomas Ereyitomi, has dismissed reports linking him with the Nigerian Democratic Congress, describing a purported membership card bearing his details as fake and politically motivated.
Ereyitomi, in a statement issued on Monday, said the card currently circulating online was forged by political opponents allegedly seeking to tarnish his image and create confusion ahead of forthcoming political activities.
The federal lawmaker maintained that he remained a loyal member of the All Progressives Congress and had no affiliation with the NDC.
He stated that he had never applied for membership of the party nor authorised anyone to register him under any platform other than the APC.
According to him, he had no form of communication or relationship with officials of the NDC, insisting that the circulating membership card was part of a calculated attempt to blackmail him politically.
Ereyitomi alleged that the move was aimed at creating what he described as a “false anti-party narrative” to distract constituents from his legislative achievements in Warri Federal Constituency.
The lawmaker also noted that he had already been screened and cleared by the APC for forthcoming elections.
He said relevant security agencies had been alerted to investigate the alleged forgery and track down those responsible for the circulation of the document.
Ereyitomi further urged his supporters and APC members in the constituency to disregard the membership card, describing it as the handiwork of political detractors.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and pledged continued representation of the people of Warri Federal Constituency.
