The family of a farmer, Oladunjoye Otele Ajiwoju, has petitioned the Ondo State Police Command over the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and alleged murder in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.
The family alleged that the deceased’s corpse was later discovered inside a canal in the community after he had been declared missing for several days.
The petition, dated May 14, 2026, was written by the law firm of Bayo Olorunmeke & Co on behalf of the Ajiwoju family and addressed to the Commissioner of Police in the state.
According to the petition, Ajiwoju was last seen on May 6 after informing his mother that he was going to the farm with his cousin.
The family said he reportedly returned from the farm later that day before leaving home again to play, after which he never returned.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Johnson Ajiwoju said relatives initially believed the deceased had travelled to his personal farm located at Igboye Camp in Supare-Akoko.
He explained that suspicion, however, arose after the family saw a photograph circulating online showing the body of an unidentified man found inside the Odeegbo canal in Akungba-Akoko.
“After carefully examining the picture, even though it was only the back view that was captured by the person who posted it online, the family discovered that it was Mr Oladunjoye Otele Ajiwoju that was murdered and dumped inside the canal,” the petition stated.
The solicitors urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and ensure that those behind the alleged killing were identified and prosecuted.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command had yet to react to the petition.
