Suspected gunmen have killed two persons and abducted five others, including women and children, during an attack on Furyam Takzul community in Kantana Ward of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Residents said the attackers invaded the community in the early hours of Sunday, firing sporadically and forcing villagers to flee their homes for safety.
The assailants were said to have stormed the area at about 12:05am and operated for several minutes before abducting five residents to an unknown destination.
Confirming the incident, the youth leader of the community, Haruna Khalid, said the attack left residents traumatised and heightened fears of further assaults in the area.
Khalid disclosed that two persons lost their lives during the invasion, while the abducted victims included women and children.
According to him, the gunmen attacked unexpectedly and shot indiscriminately, creating panic and confusion across the community.
He appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims and strengthen security surveillance in vulnerable communities within Kanam Local Government Area.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have continued to raise concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor military authorities had officially commented on the incident.
