No fewer than five persons have been killed in a renewed attack by gunmen in Fan District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Sunday night, has heightened tension in the community, with residents expressing fears over safety.
A resident, Bot James, told journalists that the victims were on their way home around 9 p.m. when they were ambushed by the attackers.
According to him, the assailants opened fire on the victims without provocation, killing four persons instantly, while another later died at a hospital.
The attack was also confirmed by the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, who described the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
Tengwong called on security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property in the area, urging authorities to take proactive steps to forestall further attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
