A student of the Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah, Ismail AbdulKarim, has died in a fatal road accident in Lokoja shortly after completing his final examinations.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday around the Felele axis of the state capital, near Kogi State Polytechnic.
According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased was reportedly navigating the busy road when he attempted to avoid some wheelbarrow operators and accidentally lost balance.
He was said to have fallen into the path of a speeding trailer, which ran over him and inflicted fatal injuries.
Sources disclosed that AbdulKarim had just arrived in Lokoja from Idah after concluding his final papers at the institution’s Community Health Department and was heading to see some family members before the unfortunate incident.
The accident sparked grief among students and residents, with many describing the late student as a promising young man whose life was cut short at a critical moment.
One of his colleagues, while reacting to the development, lamented that AbdulKarim died barely hours after completing his academic programme.
The National Association of Kogi State Students also mourned the deceased, saying his death came as a painful shock to members of the institution.
The President of the association in the college, Hassan Mustapha, described the late student as hardworking, humble and committed to his studies.
“He was full of promise and dedicated to his academics. This loss is devastating to the student community,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lawal Fagge, said the crash involved a truck bearing registration number KMC 23 YQ.
Fagge explained that the victim sustained multiple injuries, including severe head wounds, adding that his remains had been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.
