Security operatives were on Monday deployed across major parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, ahead of the visit of Vice-President Kashim Shettima to the state.
Shettima is expected to inaugurate the Onyearugbulem Flyover and also visit the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, as part of activities marking his 100th birthday celebration.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command had put in place comprehensive security measures to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free event.
According to him, security personnel, including operatives of the Police Mobile Force, tactical squads and Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear units, were strategically stationed at key locations across the state capital.
Jimoh said the deployment was aimed at preventing any security breach and guaranteeing the safety of the Vice-President, the celebrant and guests expected at the events.
Other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, were seen manning major roads leading to Fasoranti’s residence and other strategic locations in Akure.
