Insecurity worsens as gunmen abduct Ekiti LG Vice Chairman

The Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Mrs Grace Ogunleye, has been abducted by suspected gunmen.

Sources said Ogunleye was kidnapped on Wednesday along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road while returning from an official engagement.

Her vehicle was reportedly discovered abandoned by the roadside shortly after the incident, while her whereabouts remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Attempts to reach the council vice chairman through her mobile line were unsuccessful, as the phone had been switched off.

It was gathered that Ogunleye had earlier visited the Ilejemeje Local Government Secretariat before heading towards Ido Ekiti when she was attacked.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Thursday, the Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje Local Government, Falade Sunday, said security agencies had been notified and efforts were ongoing to secure her release.

The spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, also confirmed the development, saying details would be provided later.
