Former member of the House of Representatives, Abba Anas Adamu, has reportedly died in the custody of kidnappers despite the payment of a N50m ransom for his release.
Adamu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, represented the Guri/Kirikasamma/Birniwa Federal Constituency of Jigawa State during his time in the National Assembly.
He was abducted alongside his friend and political associate, Ali Tukur Gantsa, at Rijana on the Kaduna-Abuja highway while returning to Kano State.
Sources disclosed that the abductors initially demanded N200m before negotiations eventually reduced the ransom to N50m.
However, reports indicated that the former lawmaker died before or shortly after the ransom was paid.
It was gathered that the kidnappers later contacted the family and directed the deceased’s son to the location where his body had been abandoned.
The tragic development has plunged the late politician’s family, associates and supporters into mourning across Jigawa State.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from security agencies regarding the incident or the fate of the second victim abducted alongside him.
