A 29-year-old suspected murderer, identified simply as Adebayo, has confessed to killing a commercial motorcyclist, Tiamiyu Afeez, over a lingering grudge dating back four years.
As reported by Tribune, the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Homicide Section of the Osun State Police Command about two months after the victim was allegedly murdered and his motorcycle stolen.
Police authorities said the deceased was found with his throat slit along the Ojo/Ara-Ejigbo Road in Osun State after he was declared missing by family members.
The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest, saying the matter was first reported at the A’ Division, Ede, on February 23, 2026.
According to him, a relative of the deceased informed the police that Afeez had left home on February 21 for his commercial motorcycle business in Ede but never returned.
The family later received information that a police patrol team from Awo Division had discovered an unidentified corpse by the roadside with the victim’s throat allegedly slit with a knife.
Ojelabi said the corpse was subsequently identified as that of Afeez, prompting the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo for further investigation.
“During intelligence-led investigation and technological analysis, detectives of the Homicide Section arrested the suspect on April 18, 2026, and recovered the deceased’s stolen Bajaj motorcycle from him,” the police spokesman stated.
The suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation that he lured the victim to a deserted area in the Ara-Ejigbo axis after contacting him on the phone for a motorcycle ride.
Police said Adebayo admitted attacking the victim from behind with a knife and fleeing with the motorcycle after the incident.
Investigators also recovered the motorcycle and two ignition keys from the suspect.
Speaking during an interview, Adebayo claimed he carried out the attack to avenge an incident that occurred about four years ago when the deceased allegedly accused him of being involved in ritual killings.
He alleged that Afeez had stopped him on the road in the early hours of the morning, searched him, seized his phones and money, and handed him over to the police.
According to him, although he was later released by the police, his phones and money were never returned, an experience he claimed affected his livelihood as an electrician.
The suspect further admitted that he deliberately obtained the victim’s phone number months before the attack under the guise of needing transportation services.
He confessed that on the day of the incident, he invited the deceased to a bush path where he attacked him with a knife.
Adebayo also disclosed that he initially used the stolen motorcycle for commercial and private purposes before abandoning it with the wife of a friend out of fear of arrest.
The suspect admitted that his action was unlawful and pleaded for mercy.
The Osun Police Command said the suspect would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
