Middle-aged man allegedly commits suicide in Ondo community

Residents of Oda Town in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State were thrown into grief on Wednesday after a middle-aged man allegedly took his own life.

The deceased, identified simply as Friday and popularly known as “Koko,” was said to have been found hanging inside an abandoned building in the Emiloro area of the community.

Sources in the area disclosed that the man, believed to be from Cross River State, reportedly committed the act near the residence of his mother and other family members.

His lifeless body was later discovered by residents, who brought it down from the building before sympathisers gathered at the scene in shock and mourning.

When correspondents visited the area, the corpse had been placed on a mat inside the dilapidated structure as family members and neighbours struggled to come to terms with the incident.

A friend of the deceased, who spoke anonymously, described the development as surprising, noting that Friday had often advised some of his peers against engaging in reckless nightlife activities.

“I still can’t understand what could have pushed him into this. He was always talking to people about living responsibly,” the source said.

Another associate of the deceased said he was on his way to meet him for their daily routine when he received the news, describing the incident as heartbreaking for the family and the entire community.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were still unclear as of the time of filing this report, while the body had yet to be evacuated from the scene.
