The Ondo State Police Command has announced the assumption of office of Felix Ohagwu as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state.
Ohagwu took over from Adebowale Lawal following his deployment by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and policing nationwide.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the statement, the new police commissioner is an experienced officer with years of service in operational, investigative and administrative policing duties across the country.
The command noted that Ohagwu had distinguished himself in intelligence-led policing, crime prevention, operational coordination and public safety management during his career spanning over three decades.
Speaking after assuming office, the commissioner pledged to build on the existing security framework in the state while prioritising the protection of lives and property.
He assured residents that the command under his leadership would intensify efforts toward tackling crime through proactive policing, intelligence gathering, community engagement and collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders.
Ohagwu also promised to uphold transparency, accountability and professionalism in policing activities across the state.
According to him, officers and men of the command would continue to operate in line with global best practices, respect for human rights and ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.
The commissioner further expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in him, while commending his predecessor, Lawal, for his contributions to maintaining peace and security in the state.
He called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information capable of aiding crime prevention and improving public safety across the state.
The command added that members of the public could reach the commissioner on security-related matters through designated emergency channels provided by the police.
