The Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, has denied allegations that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa used state machinery to influence the ongoing primaries of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Ajulo, in a statement issued on Thursday in Akure, described the allegations against the governor as false, malicious and unsupported by evidence.
The commissioner said the accusations were being fuelled by individuals frustrated over unmet political ambitions, insisting that the government remained committed to justice, fairness and the rule of law.
He stated, “As Attorney General, it is my constitutional responsibility to defend the government and its institutions against baseless attacks and ensure that governance is conducted within the framework of the law.”
Ajulo expressed concern over what he described as a sustained campaign of falsehood against the governor, warning that those behind the allegations could face legal consequences.
According to him, none of the accusations levelled against the governor had been substantiated with credible evidence despite widespread access to technology and social media platforms.
The attorney general maintained that the APC primaries were conducted in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act, noting that candidates emerged through consultations and stakeholder engagements across the 18 local government areas of the state.
“Far from any form of imposition, the process reflected internal democracy and consensus-building aimed at strengthening party unity and avoiding rancour,” he added.
Ajulo also urged aggrieved aspirants and party members to channel their grievances through internal party mechanisms instead of resorting to public attacks and media campaigns.
He reaffirmed his support for Aiyedatiwa’s administration and warned that the government would not hesitate to apply the law against individuals spreading what he termed false and defamatory claims.
