The Acting Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, RS11.22 Owo, CRC Oladele Oyeyemi, has intensified road safety advocacy with a large-scale stakeholders’ engagement at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
Oyeyemi led the sensitisation programme during the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the FMC cooperative societies, where over 900 participants drawn from staff and stakeholders were in attendance.
He was accompanied by key officers of the unit, including the Unit Head of Operations, SRC ER Oloko, Staff Officer PE, AS Azeez, RMA1 AM Samuel, as well as members of the Special Marshals led by SM Olabode Ogunjemiyo.
The engagement focused on strengthening traffic discipline and improving vehicular movement around the FMC axis, which has become a high-traffic corridor within Owo.
Chairman of the occasion, Mr MO Sagbote, commended Oyeyemi for personally leading the sensitisation, describing the intervention as timely and necessary for an institution of such magnitude.
He urged participants to take the messages seriously and support ongoing traffic management efforts being coordinated by the FRSC and Special Marshals around the hospital environment.
Also speaking, the President of FMC Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Mr SO Omolohun, praised Oyeyemi’s leadership approach, noting that the FRSC presence had significantly improved orderliness at the FMC gate during peak hours.
Oyeyemi, in his presentation, placed strong emphasis on the dangers of reckless driving, warning motorists against behaviours that endanger lives and disrupt traffic flow.
He particularly cautioned against the use of mobile phones while driving, stressing that distractions behind the wheel remain one of the leading causes of avoidable road crashes.
The FRSC unit commander also stressed the critical importance of obeying speed limits, describing over-speeding as a major factor responsible for severe road accidents and fatalities across the country.
He urged motorists within and outside the hospital environment to exercise patience, comply strictly with traffic directives, and ensure full attention while driving to prevent avoidable tragedies.
Participants were also educated on seat belt compliance, avoidance of dangerous overtaking, proper vehicle maintenance, and the need for caution during peak traffic hours around the FMC axis.
