Hon. Olakunle Busari, popularly called “Goodugoodu” has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Accord party in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the party’s governorship primary election, was monitored by the Accord National Secretary, Hon. Adebukola Ajaja and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Announcing the result on Tuesday in Ibadan, the returning officer of the state collation of the Primary Election Committee, Hon. Olayinka Dairo, said that Busari polled 29,427 votes to clinch the party’s ticket, defeating two other aspirants in the contests.
According to the results, Oriyomi Hazmat garnered 18,716 votes, while Fatai Owoseni polled 11,922 votes.
According to the official figures, the total number of accredited voters was 60,096, total number of valid voters was 60,065 while total number of invalid votes was 31.
Dairo applauded the effectiveness of the local government returning officers which contributed to the positive outcome of the collation process across the state.
The national secretary described the election as free, fair and peaceful, while confirming that INEC officials were present throughout the exercise.
“The outcome is very, very nice. It went on fine, it was fair and free. There was no trouble; there was nothing except success.
“I want all to just know that since it’s a free and fair election, whatever comes out, we must accept. Let us move from here and see how we can bring Accord to a greater height,” she said.
In his acceptance speech, Busari appreciated party members and delegates for their confidence in his candidacy, pledging to pursue people-oriented policies and inclusive governance if elected governor.
He also extended a hand of fellowship to the other contestants, stressing the need for unity within the party ahead of the governorship election.
“I am ready to work with everybody. We will work together and brainstorm for the progress and development of Oyo State,” he said.
Busari further promised to build on existing developmental efforts in the state, noting that his administration would focus on continuity and growth.
“Where the present government stops, that is where we will begin,” he added. (NAN)
