Residents of Ekwegbe community in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State have been thrown into panic following the alleged killing of a woman and her son by a male relative.
The tragic incident, which reportedly occurred on Friday, has sparked fear and outrage within the community.
A social media influencer, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, disclosed the incident in a Facebook post on Saturday, alleging that the suspect, identified simply as Nwa Jonah, attacked and killed his sister alongside her son.
According to the post, the suspect allegedly committed the act in Ekwegbe community, leaving residents in shock over the gruesome development.
“A man identified as Nwa Jonah from Ekwegbe in Igbo-Etiti LGA allegedly killed his sister and nephew yesterday,” the post partly read.
Ugwuanyi further alleged that a similar incident occurred in Ukehe community within the same local government area, where another man reportedly killed his mother while allegedly under the influence of hard drugs.
The separate incidents have heightened tension in the area, with residents calling for urgent intervention by security agencies and community leaders.
As of the time of filing this report, the Enugu State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incidents.
The exact circumstances surrounding the killings also remained unclear, while it could not be independently confirmed if any arrests had been made in connection with the cases.
Community members, however, expressed concern over the increasing cases of violent crimes and alleged substance abuse among youths in parts of the state.
