The Peoples Democratic Party has elected Babatunde Faro as its candidate for the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency ahead of the forthcoming general election.
Faro emerged as the party’s flag bearer through a consensus arrangement adopted by party leaders and delegates during the primary election held in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, the PDP candidate described the development as a significant milestone, noting that it was his third attempt at contesting for the position and his first successful outing.
He commended the leadership of the PDP for ensuring fairness and equal opportunities for members during the primary process.
“This is a call to service,” Faro said.
“Today marks the beginning of the race. I urge all party members to return to their wards and begin house-to-house campaigns. I will provide the necessary resources, but I also need your support and commitment.”
The PDP standard bearer expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the election despite the influence of the ruling party, stressing the need for unity, reconciliation and effective grassroots mobilisation.
“We are going to galvanise party members, foster reconciliation and develop clear strategies to sell our message to the people. It will not be easy because we are up against a formidable opposition, but with unity and hard work, we can win,” he added.
Faro also urged members of the party to remain steadfast and committed to the campaign ahead, assuring them of adequate support throughout the electioneering process.
The primary election was monitored by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the House of Representatives primaries, Babatunde Akande.
Earlier, the Ondo State PDP leadership led by Stella Ojo congratulated Faro on his emergence and commended party members for conducting themselves peacefully during the exercise.
She also urged party faithful to immediately commence mobilisation efforts in their various wards ahead of the general election.
In separate remarks, the PDP Chairman in Akure South, Busuyi Michael, and his Akure North counterpart, Olubi Isaac, expressed optimism that the party would emerge victorious in the election, urging members to remain united and focused.
