Residents of several communities in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State have heaved a sigh of relief following the rehabilitation and revitalisation of major water projects by the administration of the council chairman, Hon. Ayo Ajana.
According to a statement issued by the Media Aide of the Chairman, Momoh Jawad, the intervention, which covered Etioro-Supare Akoko, Ayegunle in Oka Akoko and Oba Akoko, has restored access to potable water to residents after years of water scarcity in the affected communities.
Findings showed that the rehabilitation works in Etioro-Supare Akoko involved the restoration of motorised and hand-pump boreholes located in Ifesowapo Quarters Zone A, the Central Mosque area and Ifesowapo Street.

HON. AYO AJANA ENDS WATER SHORTAGE AS MAJOR WATER PROJECTS ARE REVITALISED IN ETIORO, OKA AND OBA AKOKO
Relief, excitement and renewed hope have swept through several communities in Akoko South-West Local Government Area following the successful rehabilitation and revitalisation of major water infrastructure projects by the administration of Hon. Ayo Ajana, in partnership with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA).
The intervention, which spans Etioro-Supare Akoko, Ayegunle Oka Akoko and Oba Akoko, has effectively ended years of acute water scarcity and restored reliable access to potable water for residents.
In Etioro-Supare Akoko, the Local Government, in collaboration with RUWASSA, carried out the comprehensive rehabilitation of both motorised and hand-pump water schemes across Ifesowapo Quarters Zone A, the Central Mosque area, and Ifesowapo Street.
The two industrial motorised boreholes serving the community have been fully restored and are now actively supplying clean water to residents, significantly improving access to potable water in the area.
Hand-pump boreholes that had been abandoned for years have also been revived. The hand-pump borehole at the Central Mosque in Etioro Akoko, which had been non-functional for several years, has been repaired and is now operational. Similarly, the Ifesowapo Street hand-pump borehole has been fully rehabilitated after years of breakdown and is once again serving residents.
The rehabilitation works included the extraction, servicing and reinstallation of borehole systems, maintenance of motorised pumps and generators, and replacement of damaged flex cables and batteries.
In Ayegunle, Oka Akoko, long-abandoned hand-pump boreholes have been successfully restored after more than a decade of disuse. The hand-pump boreholes at Ikanmu Quarters and Ikese Quarters have both been rehabilitated and are now functioning effectively, restoring access to clean water for residents who previously faced severe hardship. The intervention included full servicing and overhaul of hand-pump mechanisms, ensuring sustainable and reliable operation of the facilities.
Further expanding access to clean water, the Hon. Ayo Ajana-led administration also reactivated seven strategic boreholes across Wards 14 and 15 in Oba Akoko. These facilities, which had long been in a dilapidated condition, are now fully operational and serving residents once again. The revitalised water points are located at Iyana Ikun, Owa-Odo, Odo Oro, Obaju, and the Central Mosque area in Oba Akoko.
Earlier today, the Executive Chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government Council, Hon. Ayo Ajana, personally inspected the completed projects to assess their quality and confirm functionality. He expressed satisfaction with the standard of work delivered and commended RUWASSA, contractors and all stakeholders involved for their commitment and professionalism.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Ajana emphasised the importance of access to clean water in promoting public health and sustainable development.
“Clean and safe water is not a luxury, it is a basic necessity. Today, we are proud that residents of Etioro, Ayegunle and Oba Akoko can once again enjoy reliable access to potable water. This administration remains committed to services that directly improve the wellbeing and quality of life of our people,” he said.
Community leaders and residents also expressed appreciation for the intervention. High Chief Pa Adewunmi, the Orogbinle of Etioro, described the project as a landmark achievement with lasting benefits for the community. Similarly, Apostle Adedeji, Chairman of Ifesowapo Quarters Zone A, commended the Chairman for his swift response and dedication to public welfare, noting that the restored facilities had significantly reduced the hardship previously experienced by residents.
All rehabilitated and reactivated water facilities have been fully tested and confirmed operational, marking another milestone in the developmental achievements of the Hon. Ayo Ajana-led administration.
