The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six persons over the alleged fraudulent sale and unlawful transfer of three heavy-duty vehicles valued at more than ₦71 million.
The suspects, identified as Adeola Kolawole, 56; Alhaji Gani Bello, 73; Oladoja Akeem, 56; Wasiu Adigun, 55; Azeez Yusuf, 49; and Ojo Mudasiru, 40, were apprehended in Ibadan, Oyo State, following an investigation by operatives of the Fagun Divisional Police Headquarters.
The police said the arrests followed a complaint lodged by a businessman, Paul Aderemi, who alleged that three vehicles he purchased were sold and transferred without his consent.
According to the police, Aderemi reported on May 22, 2026, that he had acquired a low-loader truck, a tipper truck and a smaller truck worth about ₦71 million in May 2025 and placed them in the custody of Kolawole under an agreed arrangement.
Trouble, however, began when the owner allegedly discovered on May 13, 2026, that the vehicles had been disposed of without his authorisation.
The development prompted him to petition the police, leading to a full-scale investigation.
Police sources said detectives traced the principal suspect and arrested him after acting on intelligence gathered during the probe.
Investigators alleged that Kolawole admitted during interrogation that he sold the vehicles to Bello in Ibadan, a revelation that reportedly led to the arrest of other suspects believed to have participated in the transaction.
The command said preliminary findings indicated that the vehicles were allegedly transferred through an unauthorised process despite the complainant retaining ownership.
It added that efforts were ongoing to recover the trucks and determine the full extent of the alleged conspiracy surrounding the transaction.
The police further disclosed that all six suspects had provided statements to investigators and would be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, commended the officers involved in the operation, describing the arrests as a reflection of the command's commitment to tackling criminal activities through intelligence-driven policing.
He assured residents that the command would continue to pursue offenders regardless of where they attempt to evade arrest and urged members of the public to provide useful information that could aid crime-fighting efforts.
The command maintained that investigations were continuing as operatives intensify efforts to recover the missing vehicles and bring all those connected with the alleged illegal transaction to justice.
