The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a 26-year-old man, John Butren, for allegedly attacking another man with a machete during a violent altercation in Owo, Ondo State.
The police said the incident occurred on May 20, 2026, at Alajawo Camp in Owo, where the suspect allegedly inflicted severe machete cuts on one Moses Paul, 30, leaving him with deep injuries on the head and shoulder.
According to the command, the case was reported at the A Division Police Station in Owo by one Esther Agunloye, prompting detectives to immediately swing into action.
A statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that officers recovered the cutlass allegedly used in carrying out the attack during preliminary investigation.
The statement added that the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he is currently receiving treatment.
“The injured victim was immediately evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he is responding positively to treatment,” the statement read.
The police spokesman further revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He added that the suspect had been charged to court and subsequently remanded at the Owo Correctional Facility.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, reiterated the command’s resolve to clamp down on violent crimes and other acts capable of threatening public peace.
Ohagwu urged residents to embrace lawful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence.
The police commissioner also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention across the state.
