Suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Friday attacked two schools in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting an unspecified number of students and a teacher.
The attack reportedly occurred at Mussa-Biri Primary School and Junior Day Secondary School while pupils and students were receiving lessons.
Residents said the terrorists stormed the community on several motorcycles shortly after troops on routine patrol left the area.
A local source disclosed that the assailants invaded the schools and whisked away several students into a nearby bush.
“The terrorists arrived on motorcycles and abducted an unspecified number of students from both the primary and junior secondary schools in Mussa-Biri community,” the source said.
However, another resident later disclosed that many of the abducted victims, including a teacher, had regained freedom.
According to the source, only four students were still unaccounted for as of Friday afternoon.
The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, said efforts to obtain details of the incident were hampered by poor telecommunication network in the area.
He noted that he had been unable to establish contact with the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Askira-Uba.
Mussa community, located on the fringes of the Sambisa Forest, has witnessed repeated attacks and abductions in recent times, particularly targeting farmers and residents travelling along remote routes.
