Uncertainty surrounds the emergence of candidates from the recently concluded party primaries as major political parties insist that only their national leadership can ratify and officially announce final results.
Investigations revealed that winners declared at state-level primaries of the All Progressives Congress, African Democratic Congress, Nigeria Democratic Congress and other parties must still be cleared by their respective national bodies before their names are forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The development follows complaints and disputes that trailed some of the primaries across several states.
The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said only the party's National Working Committee has the authority to validate and declare winners after reviewing results submitted from across the country.
A party source disclosed that the APC's appeal committees had submitted their reports and that the NWC was expected to release the final list of candidates after completing its review.
Similarly, the ADC said its National Executive Committee had approved most primary results, except cases with pending appeals and unresolved disputes.
The party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the final list of governorship and senatorial candidates would be made public after the review process.
The NDC also urged the public to disregard unofficial results circulating on social media, stating that only its National Executive Committee could announce authentic outcomes.
Political analyst and former INEC commissioner, Nick Dazang, said parties were within their rights to follow procedures outlined in their constitutions, noting that INEC's role in primaries is limited to monitoring the process.
With the deadline for party primaries now elapsed, attention has shifted to the national headquarters of the parties, where final decisions on candidates are expected in the coming days.
