Social media influencer and activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has issued a four-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to secure the release of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State.
The online critic warned that if the victims were not rescued within the period, he would personally mobilise efforts to negotiate their release, regardless of the consequences.
VeryDarkMan stated this in a Facebook post on Friday while reacting to a viral video showing one of the abducted teachers appealing to the government for help.
Expressing concern over the plight of the victims, he described the situation as heartbreaking, especially for the children who had allegedly remained in captivity for about two weeks.
“I can’t keep watching this video anymore. The situation of these teachers and students kidnapped in Oyo State is heartbreaking,” he said.
He added that uncertainty surrounding the condition of the abductees had further worsened public anxiety.
“Nobody knows if all of them are still alive. Nobody knows if they are being starved or what condition they are in,” he stated.
The influencer disclosed that he might consider opening a crowdfunding platform to raise money for negotiations with the kidnappers if the government failed to act within the deadline.
“If in the next four days the Nigerian government is unable to rescue them or negotiate their release, I will open a GoFundMe account and look for a way to negotiate with the terrorists and pay whatever is required,” he added.
VeryDarkMan also said he was prepared to face any repercussions arising from his proposed intervention, stressing that his priority was ensuring the safe return of the victims.
“I am aware there may be implications for this action, but I am ready to face the consequences if it means returning those children to their parents and the teachers to their families,” he said.
