The Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the House of Representatives in Akure South/North Federal Constituency, Babatunde Emmanuel Faro, has felicitated the leader of Afenifere, Reuben Fasoranti, on his 100th birthday, describing him as a symbol of courage, integrity and selfless leadership.
In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, Faro praised the elder statesman for his enduring commitment to justice, democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
He said Fasoranti’s life and contributions to national development remained a shining example of patriotism, discipline and unwavering dedication to the ideals of equity and fairness.
According to Faro, the nonagenarian has played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s political and social landscape through decades of principled leadership and sacrifice.
He noted that the Afenifere chieftain had consistently stood as a voice of reason and a defender of democratic values, while also preserving the cultural heritage and moral ideals of the Yoruba people.
Faro described Fasoranti as a true embodiment of the Yoruba Omoluabi ethos, marked by honour, humility and service to humanity.
“At 100, your legacy continues to inspire generations of leaders and patriots across the country. Your life reflects courage, integrity and an unwavering commitment to justice and good governance,” he said.
The PDP chieftain added that Fasoranti’s influence transcended politics, stressing that his guidance and moral leadership had continued to shape national discourse.
Quoting a Yoruba proverb, Faro said, “Agba kii wa loja, ki ori omo tuntun wo,” meaning an elder cannot be present and allow society to lose direction, adding that the elder statesman had remained a moral compass for both the Yoruba nation and Nigeria.
He prayed for continued strength, sound health and peace for the elder statesman as he marks his centenary celebration.
Fasoranti is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost nationalist voices and a respected advocate of justice, equity and democratic governance.
