Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has thrown his weight behind Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election, while insisting that he remains supportive of the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu.
Omo-Agege made the declaration during an interview on Arise Television's The Morning Show on Wednesday, where he explained his political position following his exit from the All Progressives Congress.
The former Delta Central senator said his endorsement of Obi should not be interpreted as a rejection of the Tinubu administration's economic policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market.
According to him, those reforms were necessary and remain among the policy decisions he continues to support.
Omo-Agege maintained that his departure from the APC was not by choice, claiming that the party had sidelined him and thousands of his supporters in Delta State.
He argued that the economic measures currently being implemented by the Federal Government were not exclusive to Tinubu, noting that Obi had also publicly advocated similar reforms before the 2023 election.
The former deputy senate president said his position on the policies had remained unchanged, stressing that his support for Obi was based on confidence in the former Anambra State governor's ability to effectively implement them.
He expressed the belief that many Nigerians who remain sceptical about the reforms would be more willing to embrace them under Obi's leadership because of the trust they have in him.
Omo-Agege further contended that the policies themselves were not fundamentally flawed, adding that the debate should focus more on implementation and public confidence than on the reforms' objectives.
His remarks come amid increasing political realignments and early manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general election.
