The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has ordered round-the-clock patrols across the state following reports of alleged bandit activities, even as it dismissed claims of any invasion by criminal elements.
The corps said the directive was aimed at strengthening security and preventing any form of criminal activity across the 18 local government areas of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure, the agency's Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Jimoh Adeniken, said the Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, had instructed all area commanders, coordinators and tactical unit heads to intensify surveillance and maintain 24-hour patrol operations.
According to the statement, the security operation will focus on schools, churches, public institutions, critical national assets and other strategic locations considered vulnerable to criminal attacks.
Adeniken explained that the move formed part of proactive measures to sustain peace and reassure residents of their safety amid growing concerns triggered by rumours of bandit presence in parts of the state.
The agency, however, insisted that there was no verified report of bandits invading or occupying any community in Ondo State.
It described reports circulating on social media about alleged bandit activities in Akure and its environs as false and misleading.
The corps urged residents not to succumb to fear or spread unconfirmed information capable of creating panic and tension among the populace.
It further encouraged members of the public to go about their lawful activities while remaining security conscious and reporting suspicious movements or activities to relevant security agencies.
Amotekun reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that operatives had been deployed across the state to ensure a safe and secure environment.
