Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, has announced a weeklong programme of activities to mark the end of the tenure of its sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and Chairman of the End-of-Tenure Committee, Prof. Adebisi Daramola, disclosed the schedule in a statement, describing the valedictory events as a celebration of Ige's impactful leadership and contributions to the growth of the institution.
According to the statement, the activities will commence on Monday, June 29, with a valedictory lecture organised by the Faculty of Science.
The lecture, titled "Management Has a Few Things to Learn From Science," will be delivered by Prof. Victor Olumekun at the Nelson Mandela Hall.
The programme will continue on Wednesday, July 1, with a special monthly prayer meeting, a valedictory Senate session featuring the presentation of the Vice-Chancellor's tenure report, and a students' praise fiesta in his honour.
On Thursday, July 2, the university's Academic Staff Union will organise a colloquium to celebrate the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, while a friendly football match will later hold at the institution's Sports Centre.
Friday's activities will feature an open day at the Vice-Chancellor's office, a special Jumat service at the university's Central Mosque, and a command performance by the Ajasin Varsity Theatre.
A major highlight of the programme is scheduled for Monday, July 6, with the inauguration of an 80-bed hall of residence executed as the Vice-Chancellor's legacy project.
The event will also feature Ige's valedictory address, the unveiling of a magazine documenting his achievements, and the presentation of a commemorative book of essays.
Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission, is expected to chair the occasion.
The weeklong celebration will end with a thanksgiving service at Saint James' Anglican Church, Ita Ogbolu, on July 12. Prof. Ige assumed office as the university's sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor on July 7, 2021, and is credited with advancing several developmental initiatives during his tenure.
