Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has urged members of the 2026 Batch 'B' Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps to distinguish themselves through selfless service and impactful community development projects during their service year.
The governor gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch 'B' Stream I Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare Akoko. His message was delivered by the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare.
Aiyedatiwa said the orientation exercise had equipped the corps members with essential values, including patriotism, discipline, leadership, teamwork and national unity, urging them to demonstrate these qualities at their various places of primary assignment.
He encouraged the corps members to actively participate in Community Development Service by identifying the needs of their host communities and executing projects capable of making meaningful and lasting impacts.
According to the governor, the true essence of national service lies in the positive contributions corps members make to the lives of the people and communities where they serve.
He also advised them to uphold integrity, excellence and patriotism throughout the service year, while respecting the customs and traditions of their host communities and avoiding involvement in local political and traditional matters.
On entrepreneurship, Aiyedatiwa urged the corps members to take advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, saying practical skills would enable them to become self-reliant after completing their service.
The governor further assured the corps members of his administration's commitment to their safety and welfare, noting that the state government would continue to collaborate with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a secure and conducive environment for them.
The event also featured the presentation of letters of commendation to outstanding camp officials. Mr Williams Daudu emerged as the award recipient in the NYSC category, while Mrs Oluwatosin Yinka Mary of the Man O' War was honoured in the non-NYSC category for their outstanding contributions during the orientation exercise.
