Hon. Dr. Gbenga Fasua, the Executive Chairman of Akure South Local Government of the biggest and most populous LGA in Ondo State, with Akure as its headquarters and the state capital is proving to be a leader who matches words with tangible action.
Far from the usual political rhetoric, Fasua’s administration is delivering visible progress across key sectors, earning him recognition as one of the standout council bosses in the state.
A major feature of his leadership has been in the area of security. As the chief security officer of the LGA, the medical expert turned politician unveiled a community-driven Joint Task Force (JTF), known as the Akure Security Joint Task Force "Tiger Base," in May 2026.
This initiative brings together security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and stakeholders across the 11 wards to prevent crime proactively, ensure rapid response, and protect lives and property. Operating with clear protocols that emphasize respect for human rights and accountability, the JTF has already begun showing positive results in crime reduction, with operatives making arrests of suspected criminals and improving overall safety in Akure South.
The ALGON chaiman in ondo state has consistently praised the officers for their dedication and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting all security efforts that promote peace and order.
Beyond security, he has demonstrated strong performance in infrastructure and environmental resilience.
He spearheaded river channelization and waterway clearing in flood-prone areas, launching a second phase to build more resilient infrastructure and better protect residents during rainy seasons.
His administration is also prioritizing the timely completion of the Mega Complex at Mojere Market, at the popular Ilesa garage, to modernize trading facilities that 'll boost commercial activities, and enhance the local economy.
Initiatives such as street grading, support for major road projects, "Operation Light Up Our Market," and improved waste management with tricycles have further enhanced living conditions.
In education and social welfare, Fasua’s people-centered approach stands out. His administration has distributed thousands of exercise books and school bags to pupils, sustained the Operation Back to School initiative, provided bursary support for tertiary students, and offered free healthcare services including dental care and surgical interventions.
He has extended compassion to vulnerable groups through direct aid, support for farmers via fertilizer distribution to boost food security and agricultural productivity, and assistance to families in need.
These purposeful efforts have earned him well-deserved recognition. Fasua has been honored as the Best Performing Chairman at the Niger-Delta Peace Ambassador Awards and as the Most Outstanding Local Government Chairman in Ondo State by the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (CIISM), along with a Fellowship and Strategic Leadership Award.
He continues to align closely with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s vision for development while fostering inclusive governance and community engagement.
Under his leadership, Akure South is experiencing a new era of accountable and impactful governance.
