At least seven persons have been killed and over 10 others injured following a late-night attack by gunmen on Gwon-Ajang village in Foron district, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, has thrown the community into panic, coming amid renewed security concerns in parts of the state.
Speaking on Monday, the spokesperson of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association, Rwang Tengwong, said the assailants invaded the village around 9:30 p.m., opening fire on residents.
“At least seven persons were reportedly killed in another armed invasion at about 9:30 p.m. on 31st May, 2026 in Gwon-Ajang village of Foron District, Barkin Ladi LGA,” he said.
He further disclosed that more than 10 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack and are currently receiving treatment.
According to him, the sudden nature of the assault made it difficult for residents to anticipate or mount any form of resistance.
The spokesperson also said security operatives in the area were taken aback by the incident, noting that there had been no prior indication of an imminent attack before the gunmen struck.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of press time.
The latest attack adds to a string of violent incidents in the state in recent days. In a similar development, eight persons were reportedly killed in Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area, while three others were killed in Nyamgo Gyel, shortly after President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State.
